How to have an attitude of gratitude

There will be challenges, tragedies, and setbacks along the way.

man being grateful

Dear Stoic,

I hope you enjoyed the holidays with your family!

But now...

It's time for us to get back to work!

Today, I wanted to talk about something that is important for all of us to use: the power of gratitude and how it will help you get through difficult times.

Think...

As stoics, we know that life is not always easy. There will be challenges, tragedies, and setbacks along the way.

Maybe you find it challenging to build your audience on Social Media, maybe it's a side income you're trying to build.

But just because it's hard doesn't mean it's impossible to find joy and gratitude in the midst of it all.

You can learn from the leaders of the past:

In fact, Marcus Aurelius, one of the most well-known stoics, spent a full 10% of his "Meditations" writing about the gratitude he felt towards the people who had helped, inspired, and taught him.

So, how can you use it?

As Marcus wrote, "convince yourself that everything is the gift of the gods, that things are good and always will be." In other words, you have the power to choose how you react to challenges and hardships.

You have 2 options in front of you right this moment:

  • let challenges consume you with anger and resentment

  • embrace them with appreciation and gratitude

As Epictetus said...

"every situation has two handles." You can choose to grab onto the handle of gratitude, or you can let it slip through your fingers.

What you can do today to feel better:

So, if you're going through a tough financial time right now, try to find the things you are grateful for.

Whether it's your health, the support of loved ones, or the simple fact that you have a roof over your head, there is always something to be thankful for.

By actively defining what you are grateful for and passively accepting what you cannot control, you can find joy and abundance in the present moment, no matter what the future may bring!

Take care,
