why discipline is your destiny
Dear Stoic,
What I want to talk about is something I’ve thought a lot about recently…
Discipline.
Just think about it:
What you know: Life is unpredictable
What you never know: What kind of adversity or good luck might come your way
But have you ever thought about how you will handle it?
Will you be able to rise to the occasion or will it defeat you?
The answer lies in discipline.
Take Marcus Aurelius as an example. He was blessed with power, money, and great teachers, yet he remained a good man because of his discipline - temperance, self-awareness, and self-mastery.
Your level of discipline determines your actions, which in turn shapes your life. The undisciplined may experience success, but it will be unstable and chaotic.
On the other hand, if you embrace discipline, you will experience a stable and fulfilling life.
Who you are, the standards you hold yourself to, and your personality traits are better predictors of your life than talent, resources, or privilege. These traits determine how you will respond to the swings of Fortune.
So, the question remains, how can you cultivate discipline in your life?
Here are a few actionable steps you can take:
Set clear and achievable goals for yourself. This will help you stay focused and motivated.
Develop a daily routine. Start with small tasks and gradually add more challenging ones. This will help you establish a routine and make discipline a habit.
Practice self-reflection. Take time to reflect on your actions and thoughts. This will help you identify areas where you need to improve and cultivate self-awareness.
Surround yourself with positive influences. Seek out people who have a positive impact on your life and avoid those who bring negativity.
Be patient with yourself. Discipline is not something that happens overnight. It takes time and effort to develop, so be kind to yourself and celebrate your progress.
In the end, as Seneca once said, the most powerful person is he who has himself in his own power. And you can be that person if you embrace discipline.
So, make discipline your destiny.
This one was short because I have lots of great content in the pipeline for you! In short, it will be more about applying stoicism to make more money than anything else.
